What happens when communities take control of their own story and share their experiences in their own voices? In partnership with the Autry Museum, artworxLA students will explore the bilingual magazine LA Raza (1967-1977). They will learn how young photographers, artists, journalists, and activists played a central role in documenting culture and articulating the concerns of the Chicano movement in Los Angeles.
How do science fiction stories give us a different perspective on our world? How does artist experiment with prophecy and imagine possible futures? On the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, artworxLA and Los Angeles Public Library celebrate the literature of ideas and change.
