ADVP VIRTUAL ART GALLERY

Tomorrow our students' online gallery goes live!

We hope you will join us in celebrating the work of our Advanced Programs students who have continued creating art through distance learning. We are excited to share their work in a virtual exhibition, Can't Stop Us, that will open this Saturday, May 23rd. The exhibition includes works they have been creating virtually during the residency programs, with a culminating final project.

For their final projects, students created album covers as self-portraits. They took inspiration from two incredible bodies of work: Shizu Saldamando's solo exhibition L.A. Intersections at Oxy Arts, and Stephanie Burt's book of poetry, Advice from the Lights. Students visited Saldamando's exhibition during a field trip earlier this Spring, and have been reading and responding to Burt's book both physically and now virtually. They used the process of creating these self-portraits to reflect on their own identities and experiences at this time. The process incorporated poetry, visual language, drawing, and collage.

Please join us in congratulating them on their excellent work. Visit artworxla.org/advanced-programs to see the exhibition when it goes live this Saturday!

We are grateful to NEA Big Read, Department of Cultural Affairs City of Los Angeles, and Oxy Arts for their continued support of our students and engagement with our Advanced Programs Spring Residencies. Huge thank you to teaching artists Daniel Paige (Otis College of Art and Design) and Alan Lawrence (ArtCenter College of Design) for inspiring and guiding our students beginning projects.
