Backgrounds with Loren

BACKGROUNDS & LANDSCAPES

by Loren

Hi, how’s it going, everybody? We are going to work on some backgrounds. Let’s try to think about somewhere we’d like to be in the future—maybe 3–5 years from now. It can be a city or nature or even something more abstract and inventive. Once that thought is captured, we will begin to build what we envisioned.

EXAMPLES

DEMO SET UP

  1. You’re gonna need tape and some scissors to get started.

  2. Tape four pieces of paper together like a square.

LANDSCAPE DEMO

I choose to do the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Here are some tips for how I did mine:

  1. Sketch out your horizon line.

  2. Place your largest structures first.

  3. Outline all the significant features.

  4. Start to fill in the areas of your composition with color and slash collage.

  5. Use paint, colored pencils, or pastels to fill in the large areas of color.

There you are, see you all next time!
