Make Your Own Emoji: Part 2 of 2

Pixel art is a form of digital art that has a very unique style. It is defined as the building blocks that make up an image. Click on the video below. Workshop Coordinator Aya will show you a simple shading technique that will help you turn a pixel emoji into something with artistic style.

Aya, Workshop Coordinator

Aya works with students and supports Teaching Artists in alternative high school classrooms as a Workshop Coordinator at artworxLA. She has worked with various community-based organizations for the past 15 years implementing after-school programming in the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Alhambra Unified School District. She worked as a Program Coordinator for the Los Angeles Conservation Corps After School Program, and a Program Manager for SPARK Afterschool Academy and SPARK Youth. She obtained her BA in Studio Art from the University of California Irvine, and her MFA in Visual Arts from the University of California San Diego. She is currently a member of Color Coded, a collective that centers historically-excluded people in the co-teaching, co-creation, and co-ownership of new technologies. Their work supports and amplifies groups and individuals who are uplifting and sustaining communities of color in Los Angeles and beyond.
