artworxLA students to design construction wall murals for Metro Expo-Crenshaw line

We are excited to share that artworxLA has been commissioned by the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Metro Art program to create a series of three site-specific artwork installations for display on construction walls and banners along the Metro Crenshaw-LAX Transit corridor within the cities of Los Angeles and Inglewood. This unique collaboration will be led by muralist and artworxLA Workshop Coordinator Michael Alvarez, who will facilitate free workshops this summer with a design team composed of artworxLA students and teens from along the corridor. The artworks will focus on the history of the street names immediately surrounding the project sites, local history and popular neighborhood icons. In preparation for this major design project, artworxLA staff and students met with Alan Nakagawa and Amalia Merino of Metro Art and community stakeholders for a project orientation that took place in the community where the first construction wall will be installed at the corner of Exposition and Crenshaw Boulevards. We will be posting more pictures as the project progresses at the various locations. Stay tuned! For more information regarding Metro Art, please visit metro.net/art.
