PST: LA/LA Student Arts Contest

Prompt

LA is ____. Am I LA?

  • Students should choose a word or phrase that will fill in the blank. Examples: "LA is diverse.” “LA is stylish.”
  • Students may choose if "LA" represents Los Angeles or Latin America. 

Submissions must respond to the prompt. Students may choose to create works that address themes of identity, culture, place, or other concept(s) related to the prompt.

Submissions

Students may submit works in any of the following categories:

1. Visual Arts
2. Performing Arts (music, drama, dance)
3. Creative Writing
4. Film and Media Arts

One submission per student per category.

Submissions accepted from middle- and high-school students attending public schools in LA County. This includes charter schools, LAUSD, and all other public school districts within LA County (see if your district is in LA County here). 

Prizes
Top works will be selected for display and will be awarded college scholarships.
Three winners will be identified for each category: 

  • 1st Place: $2,500
  • 2nd Place: $2,000
  • 3rd Pace: $1,500

One Grand Prize will be selected from ALL submissions regardless of category:

  • Grand Prize: $5,000 

NOTE: One participant cannot receive more than one prize, eg. 1st place prize and grand prize.

Works will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. Personal Perspective
  2. Creative Perspective
  3. Artistic Clarity
  4. Impact
  5. Use of Media/Language
  6. Craftsmanship/Execution
