Arts for Good News Summer 2023

artworxLA Level 4 students are spending the summer working with award-winning marketing professionals at Special Group. Over the course of 6 weeks, students are working together to create original advertising campaigns. Thanks to Special Group, our students have been gifted new iPads to bring their creative ideas to life!

artworxLA’s Summer Teaching Institute is set to begin! As part of this training our incoming Teaching Artists learn socio-emotional strategies, trauma-informed care practices, and key knowledge about our upcoming cultural partners. We’re so excited for our students to meet this incredible group of creative professionals!

Welcome Samantha Duran, our new Alumni Board Representative! A recent high school graduate, Samantha has demonstrated herself to be a gifted illustrator and avid participant in artworxLA Advanced Programs. Samantha completed a Level 2 After-School Residency in Illustration with ArtCenter College of Design, served as an artworxLA intern, and produced her own documentary about her artistic journey this year alone. This summer, she then attended the Valley Arts Workshop to advance her Procreate digital art skills via a Level 3 College Prep Scholarship, and is currently completing a six-week Level 4 Internship program in marketing at Special Group. artworxLA can't wait to hear her perspective and future accomplishments as she builds her relationships with our Board this year!

It’s official: artworxLA has been selected as a grantee for Creative Recovery LA. Of the nearly 700 total grantees, artworxLA is honored to be among the 40 organizations to receive grants in every available category. This prestigious recognition reinforces our commitment to empowering at-risk youth through innovative arts education, fostering creativity and positive change in our community.

We are delighted to share that artworxLA is among the 30 arts organizations receiving capital improvements grants from the Perenchio Foundation. This funding will support critical infrastructure upgrades, propelling us to expand our reach and impact in LA County.
