ArtCenter Comic Book Illustration

In June, Advanced Programs students and alums completed a Comic Book Illustration course through ArtCenter Extension (ACX). Through a generous ACX Teens scholarship, students learned about storytelling, comic page layouts, rules of perspective, and inking. Students created their own characters and explored techniques in form, light and shadow, and composition. Check out some of their amazing works below! We'd like to thank Instructor Steven Weissman and Outreach Program Manager C.C. Ybarra for making this program happen.

USC Exploration of Architecture

Advanced Programs student Oscar recently completed an intensive two-week high school course through our scholarship program with USC Architecture. Special thank you to Amy Murphy and Lauren Matchison from USC School of Architecture. Here's what he had to say about his experience:

What did you think of the whole experience of the two weeks?

It was pretty informative on how to see the world -- architects see the world as their playing field. the program got you into that mindset pretty quickly, and I had to approach everyday and all our assignments like that.

Were you able to ask your instructors and TA a lot of questions whenever you needed to?

Instructors and TA's were helpful, they really guide you and are with you for like 5 hours everyday.

What would you say to the next student to take this program next summer?

Be on your toes -- always ready and know what you're doing. if you have any problems, just ask your TA.

Film Industry Career Panel

Thank you to the eight professionals who participated in a film industry career panel for artworxLA students and alumni. Organized by production designer Ethan Tobman, the goal of the Zoom event was to expose students to a variety of careers including production designer, cinematographer, producer, assistant director, makeup artist, and graphic design. Thank you to participating students and alumni for your questions, and we hope it was inspiring. Thank you to all of the panelists for sharing your work and personal career path, including: Christopher Blauvelt, Almitra Corey, Scott Cunningham, Shahrzad Davani, Sarit Klein, Leigh McG, Marissa Sher, and Ethan Tobman.
