artworxLA student release their first EP album!

How can "folk" music also be "new"? For 12-weeks, students in Teaching Artist Javad Butah's music workshop explored how the sounds and structures of traditional Chinese music could shape or enhance music made today. Following our 2014-15 theme "From China to LA", students in the course sampled live classical Chinese music performed by ethnomusicologist Dr. Wanda Bryant and produced new tracks using Ableton music production software. The EP created by artworxLA students reflects the cultural exchange between China and Los Angeles. Special thanks to Ableton for supporting our students!
