artworxLA students release their second EP

artworxLA students invite you to hear their newest EP album inspired by our Spring 2015 theme "Gender and Representation".

Teaching Artist Javad Butah guided students to produce music inspired by the objects in "Intersections: World Arts, Local Lives" at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. Students created music inspired by the cultures represented in the exhibition and issues of gender and representation. Students focused on gender issues and education access specific to Pakistan. For their final project, students created songs inspired by Pakistani activist Malala, which included samples from her speech at the United Nations upon receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Referencing Malala’s cultural background, students remixed a Pashto folk song, "Let’s Go to Mazar", using Ableton software.
