Honoring Black History Month

A Note from Our Executive Director

This Black History Month, artworxLA pauses to recognize and honor our African American siblings; the suffering they have endured and continue to endure, the atrocities perpetrated against them both past and present AND the amazing impact they have made and continue to make in our communities and country. We are thankful for the blessing and joy that it is to walk hand in hand as we continue to advocate and champion for opportunities that express, celebrate and empower the Black community.”

- Jaime Zavala, Executive Director

artworxLA is grateful for the opportunities we've had to learn from a myriad of Black artists, cultural institutions, and instructors over the years, and to continue to educate new generations of Black student creators.

Celebrating the Work of Former
Teaching Artist Christina Fernandez

Former artworxLA Teaching Artist and renowned artist Christina Fernandez is the subject of Multiple Exposures, an exhibition traveling across the country to five museums. Christina's works, spanning over 30 years, explore themes of migration, labor, and her Mexican-American identity through photography. Recently featured at the California Museum of Photography, the exhibit will move to the Amon Carter Museum in March. We are so proud of you, Christina!

This Week in Creativity at POT GARDENS

This week in creativity, we're checking out what our Advanced Programs students have been up to. Every Monday, you can find them at POT GARDENS, a pottery studio in Jefferson Park. Working closely with ceramics instructor Liz Navarro, our students began to create their own custom tiles. In the coming weeks our students will paint and glaze their tiles with Christina Margarita Erives.

Our Ceramics Residency is one of several programs at artworxLA that engage our growing community of high school students. Your support has ensured our ability to provide these residency programs to our students. Click the button below to see how you can continue to support artworxLA today.
